Woman killed, brother hurt in Ri-Bhoi road accident

NONGPOH, March 14: A 23-year-old woman died and her elder brother was injured in a road accident at Sumer in Ri-Bhoi district on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Retina Hanse, while her brother is Celestial Hanse (27). Both are residents of Khamar village in the Marngar area.
According to police, the siblings were travelling from Sumer toward Nongpoh on a scooty (ML05AC2751) when it collided with a truck (JK02BS0445) near a road construction site on National Highway-6. Both victims were rushed to the Umsning Community Health Centre, where doctors declared the woman dead due to severe head injuries. Her brother, on the other hand, sustained minor injuries in the accident.
Police stated that the family requested a waiver of the post-mortem examination, which was granted by Executive Magistrate Esther Ngurlienmoi Marak.
The body was handed over to the family after the completion of legal formalities.
