KHLIEHRIAT, March 16: East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar has prohibited the unauthorised sale and distribution of petrol and diesel in loose quantities, such as jerry cans and bottles, across the district.
The order was issued in the wake of reports of fuel being sold in unsafe containers.
The administration noted that such practices violate the Petroleum Act, 1934, and pose significant risks to public safety, including fire hazards and threats to life and property.  Meanwhile, the DC has warned legal action against violators of the directive.
However, the issuance of diesel for mobile towers and road construction companies remains permitted, subject to existing standing orders and compliance with petroleum regulations.
