Govt notifies DSWOs as Dowry Prohibition Officers

SHILLONG, March 16: The state government has notified District Social Welfare Officers (DSWOs) as Dowry Prohibition Officers for all 12 districts of Meghalaya with immediate effect.
The appointments were made under Section 8(B)(1) of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
The officers are tasked with ensuring compliance with the law and preventing the taking, demanding or abetting of dowry.
In their new role, the officers will have to collect evidence necessary for the prosecution of persons committing offences under the Act and perform additional functions as specified under the rules.
