Director Ra Karthik and actor Priyanka Mohan celebrated the success of their cross-cultural film Made in Korea, which tells the story of a young Indian woman fascinated by Korean culture.
The film highlights the mutual love between Indians for K-dramas, K-pop, and Korean cuisine, and South Koreans’ appreciation for Bollywood, particularly Aamir Khan and 3 Idiots. It premiered on Netflix and topped the Global Top 10 Non-English Films chart in 24 countries.
Mohan’s character, inspired by an Indian princess, develops a fascination for Korea, prompting her journey there. Shooting in South Korea offered Mohan a chance to explore the culture firsthand and understand the similarities in human emotions and values across the two countries.
She shared significant scenes with veteran Korean actor Park Hye-jin, whose energy and curiosity enhanced their on-screen chemistry. Technology helped bridge language barriers, while the 35-member Korean crew were impressed by India’s passion for K-dramas.
Karthik praised the discipline and organization of the Korean crew and described the shoot as a special experience for his wife, who he took along for the 58-day filming schedule.
Mohan shot for 35 days, forming strong bonds with the crew and enjoying the warm hospitality.
Both expressed joy that the film brings cultures closer, demonstrating how cinema can connect people globally, celebrate shared passions, and break barriers through storytelling, food, and entertainment.
Made in Korea is a heartwarming example of cross-cultural collaboration that resonates with audiences worldwide. (PTI)
