SHILLONG, March 24: The Meghalaya High Court was on Tuesday informed that environmental clearances for the proposed expansion of Shillong Airport are expected to be granted within the next two to three weeks.
Appearing before the court, Deputy Solicitor General of India Nitish Mozika submitted that the clearance process is nearing completion. He also informed that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is currently undertaking a safety assessment plan for the execution of the expansion project.
According to him, the assessment report will be submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) within the same timeframe, following which the DGCA will consider granting execution-level approval for the project.
Seeking additional time for the process, the DSGI requested an adjournment. Accepting the request, the bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh listed the matter for further hearing on April 22.
