NEHU Tura Campus inaugurates national-level training on food and water safety

Tura, Mar 25: The Department of Agri-Business Management and Food Technology, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) – Tura Campus, in collaboration with Incubation Centre (LBI-MSME) inaugurated a five day training cum workshop on Advanced Food and Water Quality Analysis.

The programme is sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The inaugural programme commenced with the welcome of participants by Dr. R. Sasikumar, Principal Investigator and Organizing Secretary, who briefed the gathering about the objectives of the workshop. This was followed by the felicitation of dignitaries.

Dr. Sheena Haorongbam, Head i/c, Department of Agri-Business Management and Food Technology, delivered a special address emphasizing the importance of advanced analytical techniques in ensuring food and water safety.

The workshop was formally inaugurated by Prof. Fameline K. Marak, Pro Vice Chancellor, NEHU Tura Campus, who, in her inaugural speech, highlighted the critical role of scientific training in strengthening food and water quality standards and empowering participants with practical skills to meet public health challenges.

A special address was also delivered by Dr. K. Ch Momin, Head, Department of Horticulture, NEHU Tura Campus, who underscored the value of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing food and water research.

The event featured Prof. Gopal Shukla, Head, Department of Forestry, as a special invitee, who shared his insights on sustainable practices in food and water management.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Gino A. Sangma, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organizers.

The training-cum-workshop, held from 24th to 28th March 2026, will provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge in advanced food and water quality analysis through expert lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and interactive discussions.

This initiative, as per the organizers, reflected NEHU’s commitment to skill development, research excellence and socio-economic progress in the North Eastern Region, while contributing to national efforts in ensuring food and water safety.
