SHILLONG, March 27: The KSU, Nongmensong unit, on Friday apprehended several non-local individuals during a late-night operation around 2 am behind a petrol pump in Nongmensong.
The unit members, led by president Jeremaiah Pohthmi, found that the individuals did not possess valid documentation.
Pohthmi stated that the discovery has raised serious concerns among residents regarding how the group entered and stayed in the locality unnoticed.
According to the union, the individuals claimed they were brought to the city by an event management company identified as Rockski.
The KSU told the group to vacate the area immediately and issued a warning to the manager, stating that the organisation would take further action if such incidents recur.
The union remarked that the incident reflects the state government’s failure to effectively implement the Meghalaya Identification, Registration (Safety & Security) of Migrant Workers Act, 2020.
It further cautioned contractors against employing non-local labourers without proper registration, warning of strict action against those responsible for similar lapses in the future.
