Rs 4.61cr E-RISE project launched in Ri-Bhoi; base laid for Umsning stadium

From Our Correspondent

NONGPOH, March 30: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday asserted that the MDA government remains committed to continuous service and bridging the gap between governance and citizens, as he took a jibe at elected representatives of Meghalaya.
Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Ri Bhoi Silk Dream: E-RISE (Eri–Rearing, Innovation, Spinning and Empowerment)’ project at Umsning, the chief minister said that while the MDA is committed to serving the people by holding programmes and schemes, the elected representatives are often seen becoming active only during election periods.
Speaking about the project, which is a Rs 4.61 crore initiative, Conrad said it is designed to benefit approximately 1,200 households across five C&RD blocks, specifically targeting those engaged in eri culture and the production of Ryndia silk.
The initiative aims to position Ri-Bhoi as a premier national hub for eri-based activities while economically empowering women who sustain their families through weaving, he said.
As part of the programme, modern tools and machinery were distributed to beneficiaries to enhance productivity.
During the visit, Conrad also laid the foundation stone for a new stadium at Umsning Patarim, which will be developed at a cost of Rs 4.71 crore. Additionally, he launched the FILO app, a digital platform intended to support students and job seekers across the district.
The programme was attended by C&RD Minister Sosthenes Sohtun, Umsning MLA Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh, Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit and Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, along with community leaders and members of various self-help groups (SHGs).
