SHILLONG, April 1: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Wednesday said that determination and humility are key to long-term success as he presented laptops to 203 meritorious students at the Meghalaya IT Awards 2026.
The awards, organised by the Information Technology & Communications Department at the U Soso Tham Auditorium, recognised students from Classes 10 and 12 who excelled in the 2025 board examinations.
The recipients included 131 students from MBOSE, 51 from CBSE and 21 from ICSE, with two specially-abled students among those honoured.
Congratulating the achievers, the chief minister stated that the laptops serve as a symbol of the government’s belief in their potential.
He noted that while rapid technological shifts in the IT sector may seem concerning, they simultaneously create new avenues for innovation.
He highlighted the state’s developing IT ecosystem, particularly the IT Park in Shillong, where companies are working on artificial intelligence and enterprise systems.
Drawing from his own experience studying at the University of Pennsylvania, Sangma remarked that the current government is focused on building the support systems for innovation and skill development that were previously lacking.
The chief minister encouraged students to explore opportunities within Meghalaya across various sectors, including technology, administration, sports, music and clean energy.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui spoke on the role of digital technology in modern learning, as he noted that such initiatives are designed to empower students.
Earlier, Joint Secretary of IT & Communications KL Nongbri informed that the awards were instituted in 2007 to promote academic excellence and the use of technology.
Representing the students, 2025 MBOSE SSLC topper Leisha Agarwal thanked the state government and said that the recognition would motivate them to continue striving for excellence.
