SHILLONG, April 2: The IMD has forecast above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall for Meghalaya during the hot weather season from April to June.
According to the IMD outlook, both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain normal to above normal across most parts of the state. For April specifically, daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to stay above the seasonal average.
Despite the warming trend, the weather office stated that no heatwave days are likely in Meghalaya during this period. The combination of warmer conditions and below-normal rainfall may lead to increased thermal discomfort and could affect water availability and agricultural activities, particularly in rain-dependent regions.
The forecast is based on neutral El Niño–Southern Oscillation and Indian Ocean Dipole conditions, indicating a lack of strong climatic drivers to enhance rainfall activity in the Northeast during the season.
