Motphran sweet shop gutted; none hurt

SHILLONG, April 2: A sweet shop was reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at Motphran on Thursday morning.
The establishment, Shaunak Sweets n Snacks, was located at Jwain Complex.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire originated in the kitchen while cooking was in progress. While diesel and gas were reportedly being used at the time, police are still working to ascertain the exact cause of the blaze.
The fire spread rapidly, destroying all goods and property inside the shop. No injuries or casualties were reported.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and contained the flames, preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent shops in the congested locality. An assessment of the total damage is currently under way.
