SHILLONG, April 6: The Special POCSO Court in East Khasi Hills has sentenced one Deepak Thapa to 25 years of rigorous imprisonment for the penetrative sexual assault of his daughter.
The case dates back to October 5, 2022, when an FIR was lodged at Rynjah Police Station. Following an investigation led by WPSI RC Nongkynrih, the accused was arrested and a charge sheet was filed on October 31, 2022.
In a judgment delivered on April 1, 2026, Special Judge (POCSO) R Rymbai convicted Thapa under Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Having already spent over three years in judicial custody during the trial, the convict will serve the remaining 21 years, six months, and four days of his sentence.
The court also imposed a fine, the default of which will result in an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment. Thapa had been in custody for three years, five months, and 26 days prior to the final verdict.
