Shillong, April 7: Meghalaya Athletics on Tuesday organised a send-off programme at the SAI STC, Shillong, for a seven-member contingent set to represent the state in the Indian Athletics Series-3, scheduled to be held on April 11 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
The squad, comprising both senior and junior athletes, will be competing under the banner of the Athletics Federation of India, marking an important step in their competitive journey—particularly for those making their debut at the senior level.
In the senior category, Donbok Shabong and Kimkim Ch Momin will feature in the 100m and 200m sprints, while Marshal Wanniang and Balasiewdor Pathaw are slated to compete in the 1000m events. Marqueenless Ramsiej will take part in the grueling 10,000m race.
Among the juniors, Yiarmanwill Rymbai will compete in the 200m, while Lastly Suchiang is entered in the 400m event.
All seven athletes are currently undergoing structured training under the Meghalaya Athletics programme as part of preparations for the National Games 2027, with the upcoming meet in Delhi serving as a crucial platform to assess their progress and readiness.
The contingent will be accompanied by senior officials and coaching staff, including E.M.H. Passah, Senior Vice President of Meghalaya Athletics, Finely L. Pariat, the association’s General Secretary, and Amarveer Singh, a national coach who is also overseeing the National Games preparation camp.
The send-off ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Joint Secretary Pleasantly Synnah and Treasurer Pynhun Rapthap.
Adding further inspiration to the occasion was the presence of Olympian and Asian Games medallist Prachi Chaudhury, who is currently training in Shillong in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
Officials expressed optimism about the team’s prospects, noting that this will be the first exposure at the senior level for several athletes.
Meghalaya Athletics extended its best wishes to the contingent, hoping for strong performances as they step onto the national stage.
