Former West Shillong MLA visits city school after SSLC success

SHILLONG, April 8: Former MLA Mohendro Rapsang on Wednesday visited Gorkha Pathshala Higher Secondary School to congratulate the management, teachers, and students after the institution secured three positions in the SSLC top 20 merit list. The school’s historic performance in the results, announced on Tuesday, prompted the visit by Rapsang and his family. During an interaction with the faculty, the former legislator commended their efforts and the students’ discipline in maintaining a high academic standard. Rapsang also held discussions with school authorities on enhancing infrastructure and adopting innovative teaching methods to support holistic development. He emphasized the importance of sustaining this momentum to ensure continued excellence in the coming years. The school community expressed gratitude to the former MLA for the recognition and support. Gorkha Pathshala’s Wangaal Lama secured the first position with 97.5%, leading a trio of students from the institution into the Top 10. Aaditya Thapa and Sharat Chettri followed at seventh and eighth positions, respectively.

PIL on hawkers in Shillong: Govt informs HC about parking zones

SHILLONG, April 8: The state government has informed the High Court of Meghalaya that the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), East Khasi Hills, has uploaded notifications regarding parking, on-street parking, and no-parking zones to the official website. The submission was made during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL No. 17 of 2021) concerning hawkers in Shillong. The Additional Advocate General (AAG) confirmed that the relevant charts and notifications are now available online, a statement which the court accepted. Meanwhile, the counsel for the petitioner was granted a three-week extension to file an affidavit, following an earlier court order dated March 10.

85 Home Guard volunteers inducted in Ri-Bhoi to manage traffic

Demand for inquiry into NH-127B deterioration shortly after repair

SHILLONG, April 8: Rajabala MLA and opposition TMC leader Dr Mizanur Rahman Kazi has raised concerns over the rapid deterioration of National Highway 127B, formerly the AMPT Road, just a month after repairs were completed. Following an inspection alongside the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, the MLA pointed to lapses in the quality of the recent work. Photographs from the site show significant surface damage on stretches that were recently paved. Kazi urged the government to initiate an immediate inquiry into the alleged shortcomings and called for accountability regarding the durability of the infrastructure project.
