NONGPOH, April 8: The NPP Nongpoh Block has clarified that it has received no official information regarding reports that sitting Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem from UDP plans to contest the 2028 Assembly elections on a National People’s Party (NPP) ticket.
In a joint statement issued Wednesday, Block President Henry Nongrum and Secretary Bishar Tmung stated that there have been no discussions concerning the party ticket for the 2028 elections. The committee is currently focused on strengthening the party throughout the constituency. The block committee also noted that sitting MDC Rona Khymdeit recently secured a victory for the party in the constituency, attributing the win to the efforts of party workers and public support.
The local unit expressed hope that the NPP Meghalaya State Unit would consider its sentiments, citing the party’s performance in the 2025 MDC elections as a result of dedicated groundwork and public backing.
