SHILLONG, April 9: The High Court of Meghalaya on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction with an affidavit filed by NHAI Project Director Anand Singh Chauhan, who is facing a show-cause notice for allegedly misleading the court regarding repair work on the Jowai-Ratacherra road. Chauhan was present in court following the notice issued under the Contempt of Courts Act.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh observed that the affidavit was not “happily drafted,” noting that the content appeared to be a series of justifications and explanations rather than a proper response to the court’s concerns.
After the bench pointed this out, NHAI counsel S Sengupta tendered an unconditional apology for the manner in which the document was prepared. He requested permission to withdraw the affidavit and was granted liberty to file a fresh one on behalf of the official.
