SHILLONG, April 9: The pending bills for the contractors of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) have shot up from Rs 700 crore to Rs 900 crore.
Informing this here on Thursday, PHE Minister Marcuise N. Marak said that the government will start the process of releasing the amount soon after the completing the necessary procedures.
Under this scheme, the government will introduce a “Sujalam Bharat ID” for all projects to track progress and ensure water supply from source to households in every village using technology.
It is learnt that the central government has stressed on the need for reconciliation of expenditures in the projects which are 75% to 100% completed.
Stating that the PHED has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to further implement JJM 2.0, a scheme aimed at providing water supply to every household, he assured that all the projects approved and sanctioned under JJM-1 would be completed.
He also said that preparations for rolling out the scheme under Phase 2.0 are moving rapidly before work begins on the ground even as he added that the Ministry of Jal Shakti has stressed on the operational and maintenance sustainability of the project and its sources.
Under this scheme, the government will introduce a “Sujalam Bharat ID” for all projects to track progress and ensure water supply from source to households in every village using technology. After completion, the projects will be handed over to local authorities through a process called “Jal Arpan.”
