SHILLONG, April 10: The State Youth Wing of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) on Friday questioned the continued service of a retired official in the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education (DHTE), and sought justification for her engagement beyond superannuation.
In a letter to the Commissioner and Secretary of the Education department, R. Rapthap, VPP State Youth Wing president Marbud Dkhar sought clarification on why A. Ali Nagi, a retired Joint Director of DHTE, is still holding office.
Dkhar noted that the party had received a complaint alleging that Nagi remains in her position despite having retired.
He questioned whether she continues to draw a salary from the state exchequer, expressing concern that such an arrangement could place an unnecessary burden on public finances.
The VPP leader further asked the department to explain the basis of her continued engagement and how her presence benefits the state. He also sought details regarding her official retirement date and the reasons for her retention.
Additionally, Dkhar enquired about the department’s succession plan, specifically asking who is next in line to assume the post and why that individual has not yet relieved the retired official of her duties.
Stating that the situation raises concerns about transparency and administrative fairness, the VPP urged the Education department to address the matter to ensure a healthy working environment and maintain the smooth functioning of the directorate.
