Byrnihat Outpost upgraded to full-fledged police station

SHILLONG, April 11: Cabinet Minister Sosthenes Sohtun on Saturday inaugurated the newly upgraded Byrnihat Police Station, marking its transition from an outpost to a full-fledged law enforcement unit.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the MeECL Inspection Bungalow, was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) VS Rathore and Ri-Bhoi Superintendent of Police (SP) Giri Prasad M.
Addressing the gathering, Sohtun said that the upgrade was necessary to meet the growing security needs of the region.
He noted that a full-fledged station would improve public accessibility, enable quicker response times and enhance overall service delivery.
Meanwhile, the DIG commended the district police and administration for facilitating the upgrade as he reiterated the department’s commitment to professional policing.
The SP, on the other hand, said that the new station would significantly boost operational efficiency and strengthen law enforcement in Byrnihat and its surrounding areas.
The event was attended by local leaders and residents.
It may be mentioned that the upgrade of the Byrnihat Outpost to a full-fledged police station is expected to play a critical role in crime prevention and maintaining public safety in the area.
