Crude bomb explodes on school rooftop in WB’s Nadia

KALYANI, April 11: A crude bomb exploded on the rooftop of Ghordagacha Madhyamik Shiksha Kendra in Nadia district of poll-bound West Bengal on Saturday, police said. No casualties were reported as the incident occurred shortly after school hours in the Saguna panchayat area under the Kalyani Assembly constituency, after students had left following an examination. A few teachers and staff members were still present when they heard a loud blast from the rooftop and later discovered that a crude bomb had detonated, with another unexploded device found nearby. Police were informed immediately, and an investigation has been launched. Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Kalyani, Pritam Saha, confirmed that inquiries are underway. Election Commission general observer P Siva Sankar visited the site along with security personnel to assess the situation. The incident triggered a political blame game, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) accusing BJP workers of planting the explosives to create unrest ahead of elections, while the BJP denied the allegations and blamed the ruling party instead. West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and 29, with counting scheduled for May 4. (PTI)
