SHILLONG, April 12: Continuing their crackdown on the public nuisance caused due to the proliferation of sex trade in the city, police arrested 16 individuals during a second vice raid at around 11:30 pm on Saturday.
The raid was conducted under the supervision of Additional SP (Traffic) Lovish Garg, and SDPO Pynursla B. Wanswet, along with other police personnel. The operation covered areas including Police Bazar, Presbyterian Church (Police Bazar), IGP Point, and other important public places.
According to police, the action was based on repeated complaints from the general public regarding obscene acts, solicitation, and nuisance in these areas.
Earlier on March 28, police had launched a major crackdown by apprehending 16 individuals, including four alleged pimps, during coordinated late-night raids in Shillong.
The operation targeted Khyndai Lad, Lachumiere, and IGP Point following public complaints about illicit activities near religious and public spaces. Police have indicated that such crackdowns would continue in Shillong.
