JOWAI, April 14: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) 7-Shnong Circle has raised concerns over a persistent power crisis affecting seven villages under the Khliehriat division, formally submitting a complaint to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL).
The affected villages, including Moolamanoh, Moolang, Musniang, Musniangrim, Rangad, Lumputhoi, and Moonongtdu, have reportedly faced prolonged outages lasting several hours to an entire day. The JNC pointed out that despite the inconsistent supply, residents continue to receive electricity bills that do not reflect actual usage, describing the situation as a serious lapse in service.
The council highlighted that the power failure has particularly affected students preparing for examinations, disrupting their study routines.
During a meeting, the SDO assured council representatives that the matter would be addressed immediately and that steps would be taken to ensure such outages do not recur. The JNC has urged the MePDCL to ensure billing is aligned with actual supply and to take prompt measures to stabilise power delivery in the region.
