MAWKYRWAT, April 14: Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L. Tongkhar on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Domjyrti village following local complaints regarding slow progress.
Accompanied by village leaders from Rangmaw and Domjyrti, Tongkhar met the contractor and project engineers to discuss the project’s status.
The MLA noted that while work had been slow due to the challenges of hill-cutting and foundation laying, the pace is expected to accelerate now that major groundwork is finished. “The contractor has assured me of speeding up the work and aims to complete the construction on time,” Tongkhar said.
He expressed gratitude to the landowners for donating 18 acres for the project, noting the school’s capacity to provide quality education to 480 students from the region.
Tongkhar also highlighted that Mawkyrwat now hosts two major centrally-sponsored institutions—the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) at Mawmerang and the upcoming EMRS—which he believes will significantly uplift educational standards across South West Khasi Hills.
