KHLIEHRIAT, April 17: An internal CC road at Apha in Umkiang village, East Jaintia Hills, constructed under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) scheme for 2025-26, was inaugurated by local MLA Santa Mary Shylla in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar and community members.
Built at a cost of Rs 40 lakh, the road is expected to improve connectivity, ease access to agricultural fields and help farmers transport their produce more efficiently.
During the programme, Shylla highlighted earlier DMF-funded works, including the renovation of the Umkiang PHC, and informed the gathering that the village may receive around Rs 3 crore under the Vibrant Villages Programme, if selected.
On the other hand, Kumar termed the project a key step towards better connectivity, noting that it will enhance access to essential services such as healthcare, education and livelihoods.
The DC added that funds from industrial and mining activities are being utilised for rural development and urged public participation in government schemes for overall growth.
