SHILLONG, April 19: The Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP) Shillong, the Paite Students’ Welfare Association, organised a career guidance programme on Saturday at Morning Star College, Nongthymmai.
According to a statement, the event was attended by hundreds of students preparing for various competitive examinations.
SSPP Shillong president Khamthianmung Ngaihte delivered the welcome address, while the session was moderated by vice president Kamginsang Tonsing.
The first session focused on careers in the banking sector. Songliankhual Hangzo, Chief Manager at SBI Shillong, provided an overview of the banking industry and its role in economic growth.
On the other hand, Moody Lamkhenthang Guite, Chief Manager at SBI Iewduh, detailed the grade structures, allowances and promotion norms within the bank, including foreign posting eligibility and training frameworks.
Addressing the specific needs of women in the workforce, Ngailianching, Senior Branch Manager at BOI Shillong, spoke on maintaining a work-life balance.
She encouraged aspirants to develop strong reading habits and shared practical advice for managing professional and personal responsibilities through discipline and faith.
The second session covered opportunities within the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and other central government bodies. Chinmuanthang Guite, Under Secretary (SSC), Guwahati, guided students on navigating recruitment patterns and urged them to aim for high-ranking services, including those under the UPSC.
Meanwhile, Mary Nemngaihmuan Thomte, Senior PA at CPWD, highlighted the benefits of central government service for women, particularly facilities like child care leave.
Mawi Hatlang, Senior Accountant at the Office of the CCA, and Chinthianmuang Hanghal, Income Tax Inspector, shared technical insights into cracking SSC exams, emphasising the importance of consistency, mock tests and the use of modern tools like AI for preparation.
