Shillong youth drowns in Umtrew River

NONGPOH, April 19: A youth from Shillong lost his life after drowning in the Umtrew River near Umran Dairy in Ri-Bhoi on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Elias Kurbah of Mawiongrim. According to sources, Kurbah had gone for a bath with two friends around 8:30 am when the incident occurred. His friends reportedly attempted to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
Umsning police were notified and alerted the Search and Rescue Team (SRT) Shillong and the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) in Nongpoh. F&ES personnel eventually recovered the body from the river.
