‘K-pop, K-dramas are very popular in India’: PM Modi at Korea festival

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the long-standing cultural and historical ties between India and South Korea during talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung on his maiden state visit to India.
He referred to the legendary story of Princess Suriratna of Ayodhya, also known as Queen Heo Hwang-ok, and King Kim Suro of the ancient Gaya kingdom as a symbol of shared heritage.
The leaders noted the popularity of K-dramas, K-pop, and Korean cinema in India, alongside the growing appreciation of Indian culture in South Korea.
They announced plans to launch the India-Korea Friendship Festival in 2028 to celebrate shared cultural heritage and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
The initiative includes establishing a Mumbai Korea Centre as a hub for K-pop performances and cultural collaboration blending Bollywood and Korean entertainment.
During the visit, both sides exchanged multiple Memorandums of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation across economic, cultural, and strategic sectors, marking a milestone in bilateral diplomatic engagement between the two nations today. (ANI)
