The acclaimed Khasi feature film Ha Lyngkha Bneng – The Elysian Field has earned international recognition with its official selection at the New York Indian Film Festival 2026, where it will have its United States premiere from May 29 to 31.
Directed by Pradip Kurbah, the film has also been nominated in the Best Film and Best Director categories, marking a significant milestone for Khasi cinema on the global stage.
Reflecting on the achievement, Kurbah described the journey as “long and quiet,” noting that the recognition feels “less like an achievement and more like gratitude.”
He expressed appreciation to the festival for providing a platform to showcase a story rooted in Meghalaya yet resonating with universal themes.
Kurbah also extended an invitation to cinephiles in New York to experience the film on the big screen, emphasising that the project is a collective effort shaped by “time, faith, and the spirit of the place it comes from.”
Prior to its US premiere, the film will also be screened at the Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival, scheduled to be held at QFX Chhaya Centre in Thamel, Nepal, from May 27 to 31.
Meanwhile, audiences in Shillong will have another opportunity to watch the film before its international screenings.
The movie will return for a special run at the Soso Tham Auditorium from May 18 to 31, with daily show timings at 12 pm, 2.30 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm.
Ha Lyngkha Bneng – The Elysian Field, which has already garnered widespread appreciation and accolades, continues to carry the stories and cultural essence of Meghalaya to audiences across borders.
