KHLIEHRIAT, April 21: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the East Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Transport Association and the Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association has announced an indefinite strike starting April 24 to protest the use of bulker trucks.
Following a meeting at Tuberkmaishnong Tahkhniang, JAC secretary Kyrshan Dkhar stated that the strike will begin at 10 AM. No trucks will be permitted to load from Star Cement or Dalmia Cement, and shipments heading to Byrnihat will be halted. The decision follows a formal notice seeking government intervention submitted to district authorities on April 16.
The JAC also declared it would no longer attend meetings at venues designated by cement companies and warned of action against those who violate the strike. Transporters in Lumshnong have been urged to cooperate with the agitation.
Reaffirming its opposition to bulker trucks, the JAC rejected recent claims by the Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturers Association defending their use.
The committee termed the manufacturers’ stance an attempt to bypass the associations’ established transport system and confirmed that the strike will continue indefinitely.
