Thousands attend K-Dream Stage K-Pop championship in Delhi

The Korean Cultural Centre India hosted the K-Dream Stage: All India K-Pop Grand Championship 2026 at Yashobhoomi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi on April 20, 2026.
Now in its 16th year since beginning in 2011, the event is considered India’s largest K-pop competition and served as the grand finale of the long-running “All India K-Pop Contest.
It brought together around 3,000 fans, creating a vibrant atmosphere celebrating Korean pop culture. The event was attended by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Chae Hwi Young, and Popular Culture Exchange Committee Co-Chair Park Jin Young, alongside prominent guests and K-pop industry figures.
It was structured into pre-event, main event, and post-event segments. The pre-event featured a K-pop Random Play Dance led by professional dancers, where about 50 audience members joined in, energising the crowd.
During the main event, Minister Chae delivered opening remarks expressing his appreciation for India’s strong enthusiasm for K-culture, while First Lady Kim highlighted the importance of the event in strengthening cultural ties between India and South Korea.
The competition featured vocal and dance categories. Vocal performances were delivered by Abhipriya Chakraborty, Shruti Dasgupta, and Unnati Singh Bilwal, while dance performances included groups MIXDUP, OUTKASTS, and 3Plus4Crew, each performing five-minute routines.
Judges included Park Jin Young, HYBE India’s Lee Woo Chang, and dancer Lip J, who praised the contestants for their talent.
Park Jin Young specifically noted the strong Korean pronunciation and emotional expression of Indian participants, emphasizing that emotional connection with the audience is as important as technical skill.
The event also featured performances by invited artists, including K-pop group X:IN (which includes Indian member Aria), singer Dhvani Bhanushali, and boy group Younite.
Awards were presented by Park Jin Young for the vocal category and Minister Chae Hwi Young for the dance category. The post-event segment allowed fans to interact with performers, receiving enthusiastic responses.
The competition brought together the top 36 winning teams from across India between 2021 and 2025, with 25 teams competing in the final round.
Organisers said the event reflects growing cultural exchange between India and South Korea and pledged to continue promoting Hallyu culture and strengthening bilateral ties through future K-pop initiatives. (ANI)
