SHILLONG, April 22: A candlelight vigil was held at Musiaw village in Laskein Block, West Jaintia Hills, on Wednesday as a mark of solidarity and condolence to the bereaved family of the late Eilang Phawa.
The programme was organised jointly by the KSU 4-Shnong Unit in collaboration with four Dorbar Shnong, drawing participation from shnong leaders, women, school children, and members of the students’ union.
The vigil was conducted as a symbolic gesture to convey collective grief and extend support to the family of the deceased. Participants lit candles and observed the gathering in a solemn atmosphere, reflecting unity and shared sorrow over the tragic loss.
Speaking on the occasion, shnong leaders strongly asserted that justice must be delivered to the late Eilang Phawa and called for strict punishment against those responsible for taking her life. They emphasised the need for the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.
A vote of thanks was delivered by Chaibha Phawa, a family member of Eilang Phawa, who expressed gratitude to all those present for their support and solidarity during this difficult time.
The vigil concluded with a collective appeal for justice and a reaffirmation of unity among the shnong and organisations involved.
