Unattended bag sparks bomb alert in city

SHILLONG, April 22: Tension gripped residents of Lumshatsngi locality on Wednesday after an unattended bag found near a transformer sparked fears of a possible explosive device.
According to sources, the suspicious item was noticed by a vigilant resident, who promptly alerted the police. Security personnel responded quickly, with a bomb disposal squad arriving at the spot to assess the situation.
After conducting a detailed examination, police informed that the bag contained no hazardous material and posed no threat to public safety.
Talking to reporters, Lumshatsngi Rangbah Shnong Wallambok Lyngdoh said that CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed to trace the individual responsible for leaving the bag unattended.
Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious objects, while also cautioning against creating panic without verification.
