SHILLONG, April 22: The Sein Raij Niamtre Shillong will mark its 63rd Foundation Day (Lyngkhooh Snem) on May 3, 2026, with religious and cultural programmes celebrating the heritage of the Jaintia community.
Established in 1963, the socio-religious body represents Jaintia residents in Shillong and upholds the indigenous Niamtre faith. The belief system centers on the worship of U Tre Kirot and is guided by three core principles: Kamai Yei Hok (righteous livelihood), Tipbru Tipblai (duty towards fellow beings), and Tipkur Tipkha (respect for kinship).
Celebration committee chairman Dr Omarlin Kyndiah stated that the main events, including the Dorbar Lyngkhooh Snem and the Shad Sukra Festival, will begin at 11 am.
A highlight of the celebrations will be the traditional Chad Mih Yaw procession, which will start from the Soso Tham Auditorium, proceed through MG Road to Police Bazar, and return to the venue.
Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar will attend the Dorbar Lyngkhooh Snem as the chief guest, while Art and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai will grace the Shad Sukra Festival.
The organisation has invited the public to witness the festivities, which aim to showcase the spiritual traditions and cultural identity of the community.
