SHILLONG, April 23: The Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GIZ India and Schneider Electric to launch “GreenSkills+,” marking the programme’s debut in Northeast India.
The MoU, signed on April 21, establishes a public-private partnership aimed at strengthening green vocational training and building a workforce for the clean energy sector. The signing ceremony was attended by Principal Secretary FR Kharkongor, Director of Employment JP Lakiang, and representatives from GIZ and Schneider Electric.
Under the initiative, Government ITI Shillong will serve as the initial hub, hosting the first “Training of Trainers” session. This programme is designed to equip educators with digital tools and knowledge to train students as electricians and solar technicians, aligning vocational trades with the green jobs ecosystem.
Meghalaya joins a growing network of Indian states implementing GreenSkills+ to modernise ITI trades and support continuous upskilling in the renewable energy sector.
