TURA, April 26: The All Meghalaya Muster Roll Progressive Workers’ Union (AMMRPWU) has threatened to launch state-wide agitations from the first week of May if the state government fails to implement its demands by the end of this month.
The decision was taken during the union’s fourth general meeting held at Resubelpara Mini Stadium on April 25.
Over 300 Muster Roll (MR) workers from the Garo, Khasi, and Jaintia Hills attended the session, alongside leaders from the Jaintia Hills Muster Roll Workers’ Labour Union and the Joint Action Committee (JAC).
The union’s core demands include maintaining the retirement age at 65, granting Regular Casual Worker (RCW) status to those with 10 years of service, categorising wages into four groups based on length of service, enhancing the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA), and introducing the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF).
The JAC had previously submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on November 27, 2025.
A planned sit-in demonstration for April 9 was called off after the Chief Minister met union representatives and offered assurances that their grievances would be addressed.
However, union members noted that despite those assurances, the government has yet to issue any official directives or orders.
The union unanimously resolved that if the government fails to act by April 30, workers will initiate large-scale protests across all districts and blocks in the state starting the first week of May.
