Actor Sanjay Dutt appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) over the controversy surrounding the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from the film KD The Devil.
He submitted a written apology, expressing regret for any unintended harm caused and addressing concerns about alleged vulgarity and the portrayal of women in the song.
The NCW, led by chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, questioned the responsibility of filmmakers and whether proper checks were done before releasing content considered objectionable.
As a corrective step, Dutt committed to sponsoring the education of 50 tribal girl children as part of a social welfare initiative.
He also assured the commission that future contracts would include mandatory legal due diligence to ensure dignified representation of women and children in his projects.
Other contributors to the song, including the director and lyricist, have also apologised. The Hindi version of the song was removed following public backlash, and the issue was also raised in Parliament. (PTI)
