SHILLONG, April 28: Senior BJP leader and Tura MDC Bernard N. Marak has called for a special session of the GHADC to amend existing rules and facilitate the ongoing delimitation exercise.
In a letter dated April 20 addressed to the Chief Executive Member (CEM), Marak stated that a clear procedural mechanism is required to expedite the process.
He explained that the first step involves revising the GHADC Electoral Roll to identify polling stations under the Separate Electoral Roll (SER). However, such a revision requires an amendment to Rule 128 of the ADC Rules, which necessitates a special session of the Council. Marak warned that failure to amend the rule could stall the delimitation process for years and lead to legal complications, particularly if objections are raised during public hearings without proper procedural backing.
He urged the CEM to take up the matter in the upcoming Executive Committee meeting to ensure the delimitation process proceeds without hindrance.
The request highlights concerns over potential administrative and legal roadblocks that could delay the exercise if procedural gaps are not addressed timely.
