Former Seng Khasi Kmie prez no more

SHILLONG, April 28: Banteilang Singh Rumnong, former president of Seng Khasi Kmie (SKK) and retired Deputy Director of the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD), passed away at Super Care Hospital on Tuesday morning following a brief illness. He was 60.
The son of former MLA (L) Maham Singh, Rumnong was a prominent advocate for the preservation of Khasi culture, religion and traditional values. At the time of his death, he was serving as the vice president of the SKK.
Rumnong, who held an M.Sc. degree in Agriculture from Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, was well-regarded for his dedication to rural welfare during his tenure at SIRD.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed grief over the passing, noting Rumnong’s years of service to rural communities and his leadership within the Seng Khasi. “Bah Bantei played a very prominent role in the Seng Khasi for the preservation of Khasi culture, religion and its way of life. I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” the Chief Minister said.
The SKK also held a condolence meeting at Mawkhar on Tuesday evening to pay tribute to his leadership and contributions to the organisation. Rumnong is survived by his wife, Junemonlin Jana and four children. His mortal remains have been taken to his residence at Jaiaw Langsning. The cremation will be held at the Jaiaw cremation ground at 2 pm on Thursday.
