Shillong, April 29: The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) on Wednesday filed an FIR with the Cyber Cell of the CID, Shillong Police Headquarters, after its official email account was hacked on Tuesday evening, raising concerns over potential misuse of sensitive communications and data.
According to the complaint, the breach occurred on April 28 at around 5.30 p.m., shortly after office hours.
The association stated that the compromise could expose confidential correspondence, including routine communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), vendors and affiliated partners.
Confirming the development, MCA honorary secretary Rayonald Kharkamni said the incident has been taken seriously, given the potential risks involved.
“This is a serious breach of our official communication system. The email account may be misused for fraudulent or illegal purposes, including financial transactions. We have approached the CID Cyber Cell and requested a thorough investigation,” Kharkamni said.
MCA’s honorary secretary added that the association has already submitted supporting documents, including screenshots and alert notifications, to assist the investigation.
“We are fully prepared to cooperate with the authorities and provide any additional information required to identify those responsible,” he said. Kharkamni noted that the breach poses a threat not only to internal communications but also to sensitive documents and contact databases, which are crucial for its day-to-day functioning.
