Newborn buried alive in Ri-Bhoi, rescued by schoolboy

SHILLONG, April 29: A newborn baby girl was rescued by a schoolboy on the morning of April 27 after she was allegedly buried alive in a village in Ri-Bhoi district.
The incident came to light after a 29-second video surfaced on social media showing the boy frantically scraping away soil to pull the infant from the ground.
The newborn was immediately rushed to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) for emergency medical attention. Due to her critical condition, she was subsequently referred to Nongpoh Civil Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Hospital authorities alerted the police shortly after the child was admitted.
Taking cognisance of the incident, police registered a suo motu FIR at the Nongpoh Women Police Station.
A case has been registered under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to the abandonment or concealment of a child.
