Chokpot, May 1: Former CSO member and resident of the Chokpot area under South Garo Hills (SGH), Mansrang Ch Marak has raised concerns over the poor quality of network as well as power supply in the hills around the Chokpot C&RD Block.
“At present, the Airtel and Jio mobile networks, along with the power supply (MePDCL), have become highly unstable and dysfunctional across many villages in the hilly terrain. These irregularities have brought daily life to a standstill and are affecting the community,” said Marak in a complaint to the Deputy Commissioner.
He stated that students residing in these remote areas are unable to study after sunset due to frequent power outages. Furthermore, the lack of internet connectivity prevents them from completing online assessments and accessing digital educational resources.
“In today’s digital age, the absence of a stable network hinders communication, emergency services and the completion of various online government-related tasks. Residents are facing extreme difficulties in their day-to-day lives, feeling disconnected and underserved due to these persistent infrastructure failures,” he added.
Marak asked the office of the DC to intervene into the matter and direct the concerned service providers and the electricity department to take immediate steps to improve, stabilize and maintain these services in the Chokpot region.
