SHILLONG, May 3: A joint team of police and Excise department officials seized approximately 600 litres of illegal liquor during a series of raids conducted across several city localities on Saturday.
The late-night operation was led by East Khasi Hills Additional Superintendent of Police Saurav Saini and Deputy Superintendent of Police Joyti Wahlang.
Crackdowns were carried out in the Polo, Jeep Stand and Urkaliar areas.
Meanwhile, the confiscated items were handed over to the Excise department for formal seizure and further legal proceedings.
The operation was conducted following persistent complaints regarding the open sale of liquor along the Polo-Urkaliar stretch, which had become a public nuisance.
Locals have, meanwhile, welcomed the action by the authorities.
