SHILLONG, May 3: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) is set to take over all road projects in Meghalaya currently under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
It may be mentioned that the NHIDCL is already managing 17 road projects in the state, seven of which are complete, while 10 remain under construction.
Currently, NHAI maintains only two major stretches, viz. Umiam-Jorabat and Jowai-Ratacherra, while all other new highway developments are being executed by NHIDCL.
Sources confirmed that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has directed NHAI to hand over these remaining projects to NHIDCL.
A meeting is scheduled in the coming days to finalise the transition.
If the move is approved, NHAI is expected to transfer the responsibility for both roads to NHIDCL within this month.
