SHILLONG, May 5: The Centre has forwarded a proposal related to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for consideration, indicating that the subject falls outside the administrative purview of the Ministry of Law and Justice.
In a recent official communication, Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal informed MLA Alexander Laloo Hek that his earlier letter regarding the proposed amendment had been examined.
The Minister conveyed that, as per the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, matters relating to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act fall under the jurisdiction of the MHA. Accordingly, the proposal has been forwarded to the MHA for action.
Hek said the development was encouraging as it indicates that the Centre would examine concerns raised by minority communities, including different religious groups and the Christian community, if the amendments are introduced.
