Body recovered from abandoned coal mine in EJH

SHILLONG, May 10: An unidentified body was recovered from an abandoned coal mine at Mulait Bri-Sumer village under Mooriap Border Outpost in East Jaintia Hills, officials said on Sunday.
Following receipt of information about the body on Saturday evening, police tried to retrieve the corpse from the water-filled pit but failed.
On Sunday, a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team, led by Sub-Inspector D. Kharbhih, was mobilised for recovery operations.
The SDRF team, led by Sub-Inspector D. Kharbhih, reached the spot on Sunday morning.
With the assistance of the QRT Civil Defence Khliehriat, three SDRF personnel—F. Shangrit, A. Dhar, and M. Chyrmang—descended into the abandoned coal mine with the support of a crane system and retrieved the floating body at around 11:15 am.
The body of the unidentified male, aged between 30–40 years, was handed over to police for necessary formalities and investigation.
