NONGPOH, May 12: The HID Foundation Shillong has urged the state government to fast-track the establishment of the Meghalaya Admission & Fee Regulatory Commission to monitor fee structures and ensure fair access to education across the state.
In a statement, the Foundation noted that it had submitted a formal request to Education Commissioner and Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri on Tuesday. This follows a previous representation made by the organisation on April 24.
It is pertinent to note that the Foundation is advocating for the enactment of the Meghalaya Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admission and Prohibition of Capitation Fee) Act, 2026.
It also called for the immediate notification of the Meghalaya Admission and Fee Regulatory Commission Rules, 2026, which, it argued, should apply to all government and private educational institutions.
According to the Foundation, these measures are necessary to ensure rational fee structures and to prohibit the collection of capitation fees.
Terming the demand a matter of public interest, the organisation appealed to the Education department for a positive response.
It also called on the general public, particularly parents, to support the initiative to ensure every citizen has equal access to quality schooling.
