MAWKYRWAT, May 12: South West Khasi Hills District Congress Committee president, Kynpham V Kharlyngdoh, has dismissed claims that the upcoming Shillong parliamentary by-election will be a two-way contest between the NPP and the VPP.
Speaking to reporters after a committee meeting to review election preparedness on Tuesday, Kharlyngdoh asserted that the Congress remains a strong contender.
“We are sure that this by-election is not a fight between only one or two parties as many people claim. It will be a heated contest, as we have seen while travelling to strengthen the party across the region,” he said.
While the NPP and VPP have already announced their candidates, Kharlyngdoh stated that the Congress would declare its nominee soon.
He informed that the party has already initiated ground preparations in both Mawkyrwat and Ranikor constituencies.
Expressing hope that voters would reaffirm their faith in the party, Kharlyngdoh appealed to the people of the district to support the Congress in the forthcoming bypolls.
