GUWAHATI, May 13: A day after he was sworn in as Assam chief minister for the second straight term, Himanta Biswa Sarma said the NDA 3.0 government would remain committed to implementing all promises made in the BJP’s election manifesto, including the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

“UCC is a key part of our election manifesto. Not only UCC, we will try 100 percent to implement each and every point mentioned in our election manifesto,” Sarma said, while speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday.

The chief minister said he would run the government in accordance with the election manifesto of the BJP and NDA.

“I will run my govt according to the election manifesto of the BJP and NDA as I serve under the ambit of the Constitution,” Sarma said.

“Assam is a frontier state. We are in the extreme northeastern part of the country and our population is diverse. So, we have a huge threat from various corners. But, even then, replicating the NDA government three times with a huge majority symbolises the love and affection people have for the Prime Minister and vice versa,” he said.

Commenting on the presence of the Prime Minister and top leadership from across the region and country at the swearing-in ceremony here on Tuesday, the chief minister said, “Yesterday’s event demonstrates how Prime Minister Modi attaches huge importance to this victory. The Prime Minister, by attending the event, showed his love and respect for the region.”

“The chief ministers of the NDA-ruled states of the country attended the ceremony. Although the chief minister of Mizoram (Lalduhoma’s party) is not a constituent of NDA, he had come to show his solidarity for the region. Spiritual leaders, leading industrialists, cultural and sports icons were there. Even ambassadors of important countries had come to the event,” Sarma said.
