Veteran singer Usha Uthup has responded to controversy over her Bengali rendition of the Arabic-inspired song Didi, after social media users linked it to political meanings following reports about Mamata Banerjee’s defeat. A viral video of her performance led to claims that Didi Go was a political jab, with some users also alleging personal grievances and relocation from Kolkata. Uthup clarified on Instagram that the song is a long-standing Bengali piece inspired by an Arabic tune and that she has performed it for over two decades purely as music. She denied leaving Kolkata, stating she has lived there since 1976, and urged people not to spread misleading narratives, noting Didi Go is a term of endearment in Bengali. (IANS)
