SHILLONG, May 16: Already under pressure for project delays, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has drawn fresh criticism for spelling errors and incorrect place names on signages along the newly completed Rilbong-Shillong four-lane road.
The corporation is being ridiculed for misspelling ‘Elephant Falls’ on road markings. Furthermore, the use of ‘Cherrapunjee’ instead of the officially designated name ‘Sohra’ has sparked public ire.
Following the backlash, the erroneous markings on the road surface have reportedly been defaced.
The blunders have raised questions regarding the agency’s lack of oversight and its failure to adhere to local naming conventions despite the high-profile nature of the project.
